digestive system.jpg
Today is yet another great day, a great day with new learning and new findings. our topic of discussion today is the digestive system and how to keep it in an healthy state always. first, lets get to know how and what the digestive system does for the body. the digestive system is a group of organs that work to absorb useful nutrients and minerals for the body from the food taken in. the above definition makes it clear that the digestive system won't work unless you eat and the type and quantity of food taken in still plays a role. the food taken in must be digested for a healthy living and for the food to be digested, it must come in the form and type which the digestive system can work with, if not, it becomes a problem to the body. there are some things people do while feeding not knowing that it has a negative effect on their digestive system and health in general. below i will clearly state the things to consider in order to maintain a good digestive system.

*food cooking
*size of food particles
*drinking water before and after meals
*quantity of meal
*nervous tension
*eating position

*food cooking: it is true that in most cases cooking increases the palatability of foods. some foods such as raw meat could be eaten raw and digested but not with any degree of pleasure. there are some foods that should be cooked before eating e.g cereals and cereal products. in this case, the cell walls surrounding the starchy material must be softened and the cell contents changed to more digestible products with moist heat. the method of cooking often has an effect on digestion, bad cooking can have a deleterious effect e.g proteins cooked quickly so that they are hard and tough, foods coated with fat as happens when frying is done at low temperature. always ensure that your foods are properly cooked.

*size of food particles: to avoid food bolted in unchewed lumps which nevertheless could pass through the digestive tract undigested and absorbed thereby causing trouble, care should be taken to have the teeth in good order and to take time to chew food properly.

*drinking water before and after meals: liquids taken before meals tends to promote the flow of digestive juices, so it is in order for a normal person to always drink a glass of water before and/or after meals. don't just go on with the habit of eating without water, most times, it makes the passing out of feaces very difficult and painful, because the food eaten are caked up without the adequate mixture of water.

*quantity of meal: there is often discomfort if the meal is too large. a sedentary worker should remember that he cannot digest large fatty meals with the same ease as a man doing hard manual labour. a small amount of food taken more frequently is generally better than stoking up the digestive system with food that may not be digested.

*nervous tension: this is often the cause of real or imaginary digestive disorders.meals eaten when worried, tensed, nervous, angry or in a surrounding that is unpleasing are not as a rule well digested. however, there is no doubt that individuals react differently to different foods and if there is discomfort after eating certain kinds of meal, the person concerned should note all the above tips and could also reduce the quantity of fatty foods. the inclusion of plenty of fruit and vegetables in a diet to provide fiber is important.

*eating position: this should be highly considered when eating, you should always try not to eat in any place or position you like.some people may decide to eat while lying down or walking around, some even eat while running, all of this is wrong and unhealthy. eating should be done quietly while sitting upright, not while squatting, standing or bending.
All these tips properly followed without defaulting will help you to maintain a good and healthy digestive system.
